Dr. Joel Glickman addresses NxStage equipment and therapy prescription. In addition to outlining the characteristics of an “ideal” system, topics include the NxStage System One “cycler,” forms of dialysate, kinetics, writing prescriptions, a clinical study overview, and long duration therapy.

Dr. Michael Kraus discusses in detail the techniques used in the placement of PD catheters, as well as patient selection criteria and therapy modalities. He explains that to build and maintain a successful practice, everyone who works with PD patients must be knowledgeable of catheter placement techniques in order to reduce complications in patient care and lower morbidity.

Dr. Brent Miller reviews developments in kidney dialysis over the past decade, describes data on effectiveness, and covers the effects of home hemodialysis frequency on blood pressure and phosphorus levels.

Dr. Joel Glickman goes on to cover patient requirements, modalities, the different machines available, patient safety, and the impact of incorporating home hemodiaysis into a practice.

Dr. Michael Kraus discusses how to incorporate home hemodialysis into an existing practice, reviews his personal experience, and describes patient quality of life as a result of home hemodialysis.
